Officer Klein was one of the officers stationed aboard the USS Hermes, named after German mathematician Felix Klein. He was the one to first receive the full readout from the Contact Event, and had an amicable relationship with the rest of the Hermes crew. The exact nature of his official role aboard the Hermes is unknown. In A Place for Everything, Jacobi seems to recognize him, calling out his name when he removes his mask. Soon after, it is revealed that his, and the rest of the Hermes Crew's, body is under the control of Doctor Pryce, and that all four of them are effectively brain-dead. Subsequently, in The Devil's Plaything, Jacobi refers to Klein as a friend, "until we weren't anymore," calling him "a good guy." Not much else is known about his personal life or their relationship. Later in that episode, Jacobi jams the frequency that Pryce was using to animate and take control of the Hermes crew, and Klein, along with his colleagues, drop to the floor, apparently out of commission for the rest of the show.
